Just because they make nice cars doesn't mean their geek squad knows their arse from a hole in the ground. I'd buy a new 6" unit with dash cam instead of this Maz unit. My experience with Tom Tom has been DON'T! Though I thought hey, nav is nav, it ain't. My $200 5" Garmin 2598 (bought several years ago) is smarter, more colorful, shows bodies of water far better, is more intuitive to operate, and is more friendly. My advice is don't waste your money on ANY Maz nav. I should have Lemon Law'd it but that's 20-20 hindsight. I had a '13 Charger with major malfunctions in that unit and after eight dealer visits I dumped the car. I can just see getting a contaminated or otherwise hinky chip and going in to the Maz dealer to complain about the screen which is showing the Mars Rover or whatever the Russians programmed into it!Īll these gizmos, HVAC, radio, nav, EVERYTHING, come through Central Command and once that sukkah is corrupted you are SKROOD. I mulled things over for a while and decided to go with the overpriced dealer chip at four bills. I asked the same question here and people told me I could get the chip at Amazon for 150 bucks or so. I don't know how it will behave with 3rd party-purchased cards, because I've never tried. Without hacking the card, I could not give you my card because it wouldn't work in your car - VIN mismatch.Īfter the card is locked to your VIN, the free mazda toolbox software should let you update the maps. The background color in the toolbox is the color specified.Save Gamma helps browsers display colors more accurately.Save Resolution, Save Creation Time. After 60 miles, the SD card locks to the VIN of the car. To remove the card, simply push down to release the spring-loaded lock.Īs to purchasing a card, be very cautious about third party sellers, and especially wary of anyone selling used cards. Once it drops into the slot, you'll need to push down a small way to engage the spring-loaded lock. If it doesn't slide most of the way in easily, flip it over. The maps were supposed to update every 6 months, not every 18 months.Īs far as installing it, you plug the SD card into the slot, and that's pretty much it. From the developer: Mazda Toolbox is a Windows utility that enables you to see all available updates, download the necessary files from the internet and upload updates and new content to your infotainment system. IIRC, the first map updates weren't available until late November 2015. I agree the cards are ridiculously expensive for how rarely they seem to actually update the maps. I would flip that lock/unlock a few times to ensure proper disengagement (you want it unlocked).Click to expand. This question does seem to come up every few weeks. Oh and we saw another poster talk about a small burr on the SD card. Again just trying to help troubleshoot - not a guaranteed solution. Again sometimes the special methods that these types of programs use to access system parts (SD card) "looks" like suspicious behavior to the protection programs and they (antivirus / malware programs) block it without a message or error. You should DISABLE them prior and during using the Mazda toolbox application. Sorry for the confusion on my suggestion for antivirus and malware protection programs. 5.) Update Files on Card with files from 'NOT USED EU.zip' (.mze8tk47l6g30fd28kxmrytev9.lyc, cardnotused.txt, ) (in this zip file is a other card id as in EU CardID) 6.) Drive with this card until its locked. If you tried it both ways and got the same result - this was not the problem. 4.) Copy content from 'sd eu 2016.zip' to the card. opening the application as administrator removes any potential problems behind the scenes (no error message). Sometimes applications are doing a "raw access" or "privileged access" to things on the system. Yes the application opens, but you indicated it would not see the SD card. Just a troubleshooting step, not a magical solution.
